Parrots Have Rhythm

People are not the only ones who have rhythm – parrots have got it too! Those of us with amazons, greys, and cockatoos already knew this. We've giggled and danced with our birds. So it sounds funny to read "Scientists at Harvard University have discovered that birds – and parrots in particular – can bob their heads, tap their feet and sway their bodies in time to a musical beat."

You needed scientists to figure that out?!

My blue-fronted amazon, Inca, changes her bopping to pace with the music (you can watch her being Fergalicious in a video on the home page of ParrotParrot). It's really a riot to watch her find the beat and start moving to it. Certain types of music really get her going (anything Fergie or other female pop starts - anything with a good driving beat).

She was bopping to Mia's Paper Planes when the gun shot sound effects almost sent her rocketing off her perch - holy moly what was that?!!

Dancing is a great way for amazons to get exercise - they are prone to weight gain so it's always good to get them moving. So turn on some music with a beat and start head bopping with your bird!
